Horse Therapy

Horseback Riding:
Accessible For All

“Acceptional” Riders is a charitable therapeutic equine program for children through to adults with disabilities to learn horsemanship and riding skills. The program has been running since 1992 and continues to be the leading fully accessible equine facility.

Equine Assisted Learning

Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is a non-riding program using specially-designed experiential learning exercises where participants get to practice life-skills in real time, learning from the best teacher in the world: The Horse!

With Horses as the teachers, we are able to facilitate participants through their journey of learning, self exploration, and understanding. Facilitators become translators for the horse, relaying their non-verbal communication to encourage and guide participants to attain their goals.

Who Would Benefit?

The answer is simple: everyone.

In the arena, our horses encourage practicing life skills and participants are able to transfer these interactions and problem solving skills to real life experiences.

Participants develop: healthy relationships and work ethics, trust in self and others, confidence and self esteem, communication skills (verbal and non-verbal), accepting responsibility, empathy and patience while considering others, impulse control and good decision making, ability to be a smart risk taker, appreciation of differences, diversity, and value of community, expansion of personal comfort zone.

"Horses carry the wisdom of healing in their hearts and offer it to any human who possess the humility to listen." Unknown

Therapeutic Riding

Horseback riding builds confidence and improves concentration, motor planning, strength balance, and posture. The rider receives all these benefits and at the same time has FUN!!! Interaction with the horses and the natural discipline required in the sport of riding makes it an exciting alternative approach for individuals with behaviour, attention, and hyperactivity disorders. Horses, volunteers, and instructors receive special training to ensure a safe, effective, and fun program. New riders and volunteers are always welcome. Each rider has an individualized program in a group setting. This is taught by qualified riding instructors and a therapeutic riding therapist.
